Keith Richards treated the central guitar line as a temporary guide for a future horn arrangement, using a Maestro FZ-1 Fuzz-Tone to give it a sustained, brass-like character. Engineer Dave Hassinger reportedly applied substantial console EQ to make the primitive fuzz cut through, while the precise guitar, amplifier and settings remain disputed.
