Engineer Bradley Cook documents Dave Grohl’s Gibson RD Standard through a Fender Tone Master head and Mesa/Boogie 4x12, captured with an SM57 and Neumann U87; the filtered opening used an Astatic JT40 for its intentionally dull bandwidth. Pat Smear supplied a complementary, middier layer through a Mesa/Boogie Studio .22 preamp, Crest power amp, and Marshall cabinet. Exact amp positions were not recalled, so the knob values below are practical approximations from those documented rigs.
