Fingerstyle Quack — Clean Strat Lead
Mark Knopfler described the signature sound as a 1961 Stratocaster with its three-way selector jammed between positions, played through a Fender Twin. Later session reporting notes that the precise studio amp is not conclusively logged, but confirms a sparse treatment of compression and reverb. The Twin controls below are therefore representative settings based on Knopfler’s own account. Signal Chain
Notes
Play with the thumb and first two fingers rather than a pick. Keep the amp very clean and generate the snap by pulling the strings slightly away from the fretboard.
