Munich Rockabilly Pastiche — Martin Rhythm & Esquire Lead
Freddie Mercury recorded the all-downstroke rhythm on a six-string Martin acoustic captured with two microphones and processed as a stereo spread. Brian May used Roger Taylor’s old Fender Esquire/Broadcaster-type guitar for the James Burton-inspired electric lines; May’s recollections conflict between a Mesa/Boogie and a Fender amp, so this preset follows his detailed 1983 Mesa/Boogie account and labels the settings approximate. Freddie’s rhythm is all downstrokes and should drive the entire track. Keep Brian’s lead clean, compressed and twangy, with very little sustain or British midrange honk.
